It’s Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It’s also a great chance to see what others are reading right now…you just might discover the next “must-read” book!

Last Week’s Journeys
Kellee: I am so excited! I had a great reading week for the first time in a very long time. This week I read 2 novels, 2 picture books, 1 graphic novel, and 1 nonfiction book!!! Woot!!! I believe I have Jo Knowles to thank because it was her two novels that were the first time I just sat and read for hours since the spring. Living with Jackie Chan and Jumping Off Swings were just brilliant and you should read them both. The picture books I read were Snatchabook by Helen Docherty and Scaredy Squirrel Prepares for Halloween by Melanie Watt (both which I’ll review soon). Finally, I read Waluk by Emilio Ruiz (which I’ll review this week) and The Solar System Through Infographics by Nadia Higgins (which all teachers should buy!). Phew! Love being able to write about that many books!
Ricki: I was not as successful as Kellee. This week, I started graduate school for my doctoral degree, and I was overwhelmed with work. I spent many late hours (and early mornings) in my office, and when I came home, I fell asleep right away. I thought I would finish Dream Thieves, but then my husband asked to take the Kindle on a trip this weekend, so I had to start a new book. I didn’t finish any books, but I am almost done with three of them (see the next section).
This Week’s Expeditions
Kellee: Hm. It is hard to follow up the type of week I had. I need to make a list of the books I have lined up to blog about and read them in order of when the blogging dates are… I’ll let you know next week what I get to!
Ricki: I plan to finish Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater. My husband returns home tomorrow with the Kindle (hoorah!). I am also halfway through Trash by Andy Mulligan, and I have 3 more discs left (out of 12) of the audiobook, Grave Mercy. I am in love with this series. How the heck did I miss it? I hope you all had a better reading week than I did!

Grave Mercy is highly recommended by one of my co-workers! I can’t wait until we get in Snatchabook. You may like Tap the Magic Tree as a picture book read.

I really want to read Jumping Off Swings and Living with Jackie Chan but I just haven’t gotten around to them yet. Heck, I have the ARC of Jackie Chan but I don’t want to read it before I read Swings. I know you don’t have to read Swings first, but I want to.
I read Jackie Chan first and then Swings and still both amazing. It is interesting to think about how my perspective of Swings would be different than someone who read it the other way around….
They are very different but equally amazing. I think you will like them both, regardless of the order you read them in. I read them in order, but like Kellee said, I know she didn’t, and she was still texting me about how much she loved them.
Sounds like you both got through a mountain of reading–Kellee with fiction (I loved Jo Knowles’ work, too!) and Ricki with, um, functional non-fiction. 😉 Hooray for you both! Ricki, Grave Mercy is one of my favorite YA series, too–talk about a page-turner.

Haha, Natalie! My husband asked me if I listed my Quantitative Methods book on the website this week.
It seems we have the same taste. I have found it interesting that everyone on my GoodReads friend list either listed it as 5 stars or “did not finish.” I am in love with it.
So, now I need to put Grave Mercy on my long, long list, along with Jumping Off Swings and Living With Jackie Chan. I’m sure they’re all terrific! Best to you both in this very busy beginning of the year, no matter where you are!
TBR lists just keep getting longer and longer doesn’t it…. *sigh*

I loved Grave Mercy and have Dark Triumph on my stack. Kellee, I make a calendar and put down the dates I want to have a book review. It helps me decide what to read next.
I have a spreadsheet and calendar, but sometimes I need to just get the books and stack them up 🙂 Maybe it is the difference of visuals. Sometimes I get so excited about books, I forget about the books I need to read 🙂
I am debating whether to read or listen to Dark Triumph. I love listening to Grave Mercy, but I can’t decide how to approach the next one!

I’m looking forward to both of those Jo Knowles books too. I still need to get my hands on a copy of Each Kindness. I think our school library added it this year, so I’ll have to pop in and read it.

Unicorn Thinks He’s Pretty Great is such the perfect title to show older students that you’re never too old to enjoy a picture book! Cloven Justice!

All of Jo’s other titles are very different (Teen vs. MG), but they are all beautifully written.
