It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA!
It’s Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It’s also a great chance to see what others are reading right now…you just might discover the next “must-read” book!

Last Week’s Journeys
Kellee: I’ve had a pretty great reading week! I read two novels, a nonfiction book, and a picture book… not bad 🙂 The two novels I read were quite different: My Sister Jodie by Jacqueline Wilson was a realistic fiction novel about two sisters trying to find themselves and Gorgeous by Paul Rudnick. The nonfiction book was called Encyclopedia Horrifica and I can see why so many of my students are drawn to it. Finally, for our Halloween review, I read Halloween Hustle by Charlotte Gunnufson.
Ricki: This week was a busy, busy week for me. I had to finish midterms and then I had my baby shower. 🙂 I read the manuscript of In This Moment by Wendy Glenn on www.swoonreads.com (a Macmillan website). It was fantastic. If you like meaningful, quality YA romances, this is a great book for you. My review will be up next week. I am just about done with Hetty Feather by Jacqueline Wilson. It is such a fun story. I can’t wait for Kellee’s and my double review this week!
This Week’s Expeditions
Kellee: Gorgeous was the first book in my 4 books pile in preparation for the ALAN Workshop. Next is girlchild by Tupelo Hussman followed by Loud Awake and Lost by Adele Griffin then Season of the Witch by Mariah Fredericks. I hope to finish them all this week! *Fingers Crossed*
Ricki: As I get more and more exhausted, my reading seems to fall. I have wondered if I should start reading my YA books to my belly. I may start with Halloween Hustle, which will be our Halloween review book. I also want to start If You Find Me by Emily Murdoch. I have heard it is quite good. Has anyone read this one yet?

I loved Doll Bones and want to read The Coldest Girl in Coldtown! Ricki – you sound like you’re getting close! When is your due date? Chuckling at Carrie’s comment – lots of board and picture books in your future! 🙂
Our shower was book-themed, and we asked our guests to bring a book in lieu of a card. We are chock full of great books now! I can’t wait to read them, but my husband says I should hold off because I will be reading them a lot!
I am due in less than 6 weeks–December 8th. 🙂

I haven’t heard of any of the books you all are reading. I will have to keep my eyes open for them. Have a great time reading to that tummy Ricki. I remember those days. I also read to my munchkins from my books when they were itty bitty. I think they liked the sound of my voice even though it couldn’t have made any sense at all. 🙂
I am so excited! I just feel a bit dorky reading to my belly. I suppose I am a dork, so it fits!
I haven’t started reading to my belly yet, but I am actually looking forward to it (though it does seem a bit dorky ;-P)
I just went back to read the review of Reality Boy-sounds so sad, but I know it’s good because of A.S. King’s work. I’ve heard good things about If You Find Me, but still haven’t read it. Reading to the belly is a good thing, Ricki, but I’m not so sure about the YA yet! Looking forward to your words about Hetty Feather-my latest is up today. Thanks for all!
Reality Boy is a bit sad, but it feels very realistic to teens today. I liked it immensely.

I figure I can read YA until he can understand it, and then I will have to go age-appropriate. Maybe I will start with reading Halloween Hustle to the belly.
Part of the joy to reading to young children is when they start “reading” it back to you. I still cherish the copy of Good Night Moon that I read to my daughter! I can’t even imagine the number of times that book was read!
I am reading Doll Bones now and can’t wait for it to get into the hands of my students!

Encyclopedia Horrifica sounds like a book that would be perfect for our current bimonthly theme. I should check that one out. I am interested about your thoughts on Doll Bones as I have just started reading the first few chapters last night. 🙂 And so nice to see more Jacqueline Wilson love.
