It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA!
It’s Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It’s also a great chance to see what others are reading right now…you just might discover the next “must-read” book!
Jen Vincent, of Teach Mentor Texts, and Kellee decided to give It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children’s literature – picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, anything in the world of kidlit – join us! We love this meme and think you will, too.
We encourage everyone who participates to support the blogging community by visiting at least three of the other book bloggers that link up and leave comments for them.
CONGRATULATIONS,

Last Week’s Journeys
Kellee: This week I was able to get some more reading in which really does make my week better! I finished John David Anderson’s The Dungeoneers, and it is EPIC! You’ll want to read it; I promise. Part of the problem with reading an ARC, though, is I now have to wait even longer for the sequel. I also read Bob Shea’s new early reader Ballet Cat: The Totally Secret Secret which was such a great, funny book. Elephant and Piggie fans will definitely like this one. Trent and I struggled a bit with finding reading time every day this week. He loves books and flips through them and plays with them often, but this week we had trouble with sitting down before bedtime and reading because of business. However, this week we did read a DK ABC Baseball book and a Thomas the Tank Engine book (which was perfect because this weekend, My Gym had the electronic Thomas out!).
Ricki: I finished Audacity by Melanie Crowder. It is an inspirational book in verse based on the true story of Clara Lemleich. She was a Russian Jewish immigrant who was forced to work in horrible factory conditions in the early 1900s. Clara stood up for her rights and fought with the union. I will provide a full review soon, and I absolutely recommend it.
This Week’s Expeditions
Kellee: I am still listening to Never Fall Down by Patricia McCormick. It is such a tough book, but I am sucked in! I also hope to read A Cure for Dreaming by Cat Winters and/or Girls Like Us by Gail Giles. With Trent, I hope to make sure to have more time to read to him this week.
Ricki: I am excited to start The Secret Hum of Daisy by Tracy Holczer. I know many of you have read it, and I have heard it is wonderful! I also have to read half of a book on coding. Jealous? 🙂

I’ll have to check our ARC shelves if we have The Dungeoneers. The Secret Hum was a delightful book. I’m loving books where grandparents play an important role.
I hope you do, Earl. It is a pretty epic book.
I plan on reading Secret Hum soon as well! I loved her guest post we had.
Me too, Earl. I am excited to hear that you like The Secret Hum of Daisy. I plan to read it this week, but my library is still closed due to the snow, so we will see.
It sounds like another busy week, me, too, but am going to my state reading conference, will be fun & a nice two day break away. Will definitely find Fish In A Tree (out Thursday!) Have a good week! Enjoy “Secret Hum”, Ricki. And Kellee, I keep hearing about Girls Like Us!
Hope you get to FiaT–it is a special book!
Girls Like Us just was honored with a Schneider, so that makes makes me want to read it even more.
Enjoy your conference!
I hope you have a great week, too, Linda! State reading conferences are always good fun. Let us know what you learn!
I loved the post from Tricia Springstubb. I want to use some of the setting ideas!
Ricki, you’ll have to let me know about Daisy… it’s in my pile 🙂
Kellee, are you going to do a post for Dolphin? I know you’ve talked about it a bit before. I have it ordered from Scholastic.
Michele, I will surely let you know! Tricia’s post was wonderful, wasn’t it? She is a gem. 🙂
Wasn’t it a great post?!?! I loved her ideas as well. I look forward to doing her activities with kids.
Yes, I’m excited to do a post about it! Scholastic gave me permission to do it a bit early since it is going to be in the Spring fairs. I hope you and your kiddos like it!
You are so right that finding/making time to read really does make the week better. I felt better all week last week because I started my Monday off with an hour of reading. This week, I’ve been way too wrapped up in the ALA awards to get any reading done but I’m intending to settle down with The Crossover in a few minutes. Just ordered Girls Like Us after it won the Schneider this morning.
It just does make it better, doesn’t it?! Sets the mind up for success.
I have to read Crossover now, too! It is always checked out of my classroom, so I will have to snag it.
And I’m really intrigued by Girls now that it won the Schneider!
I’ve heard The Crossover is simply incredible. I can’t wait to get to it! I also want to read Girls Like Us. It looks so good!
I just requested Girls from my library and I am number 1 in line!
Oh yeah, Never Fall Down was such a hard read. I can’t even describe the horror I felt when listening to that audiobook.
Wishing you both happy reading – both Mommy reading and personal reading this week! Isn’t it an amazing day for books – so excited about these awards and the honour given to certain titles!
Oh my goodness! Thank you so much! One of the girls I work with has been reading a lot of middle grade and YA books lately and we’ve been passing books back and forth. I know we will both enjoy reading these!
Coding? Jealous wasn’t the word that popped into my mind. 😉
Girls Like Us is going on my TBR if it isn’t there already – especially since it got a sticker today.
The Secret Hum of Daisy sounds beautiful indeed – been reading a lot of great reviews about it. I am hoping I’d get to it soon enough this year. 🙂
Coding? Meh… bought a few books on coding and my students are excited though! 🙂
Can’t wait to read Secret Home of Daisy…
The Dungeoneers – anticipation! 🙂
